Omicron arrived! See how COVID-19 virus spreads in the air.

On 26 November 2021, WHO designated the variant B.1.1.529 a variant of concern, named Omicron, on the advice of WHO’s Technical Advisory Group on Virus Evolution (TAG-VE). In a very short time, the highly infectious Omicron COVID-19 variant has upended many aspects of our lives.

Since Omicron was found, the virus has spread widely around the world, exacerbating multi-country outbreaks around the world. The United States and European countries including the United Kingdom, France and Italy have reported the record-breaking new COVID-19 cases in a single day.

As we all know, COVID is an air-borne droplet virus, it can be found in your nose, mouth and throat. Omicron is incredibly infectious, it spreads extremely quickly! Everyone should be masking. Beside wearing a mask, you need a qualified and professional air quality monitor as well. Aerosols, a crucial path of coronavirus transmission. Studying aerosols helps us understand how COVID spreads.

There is a larger number of suspended particulate matter in the air, which increases the risk of transmission of viral infections via airborne droplets. Most of the particles we exhale out of our bodies don't disappear. They stay in the air and they can stay in the air for minutes to hours, depending on the ventilation system. PM2.5 is fine solid aerosols with a particle diameter of 2.5 micrometers and less that is suspended in ambient air. PM2.5 is known to have a significantly longer lifetime in the air where it can be suspended at an extended period compared to respiratory liquid droplets. This longer lifetime of particles may pose a significant viral exposure to human health, especially in indoor environments. Therefore, we need an air quality monitor during the pandemic.

Temtop PMD 331 is an innovative handheld particle counter with multi-channel, 0.3um/ 0.5um/ 0.7um/ 1um/ 2.5um/ 5um/ 10um. It’s an optical particle counter, using light-scattering measurement tech. Imagine aerosol emissions spreading in a room and PMD 331 measures aerosol in MIE theory like visualizing dust particles in a beam of light. This compact unit contained with its own internal battery and sample pump optimizes your environment and protects you from Omicron virus.
